It's that time again to look forward to the year 2014 in movies. There are a lot of exciting blockbusters this year and not just from comic books. Let's take a look!
January 17
Directed and written by Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Back in the Day brings a class reunion filled with raunchy humor and messy consequences of returning to a hometown. Back in the Day stars Rosenbaum, Morena Baccarin (Homeland, Firefly), Nick Swardson (Chozen, Reno 911), Emma Caufield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, TiMER), Harland Williams (Dumb & Dumber, Superstar), Richard Marx, Isaiah Mustafa (Old Spice commercials), and Kristoffer Polaha (Life Unexpected).

February 7
Ralph Fiennes stars as Charles Dickens as he holds a secret relationship with a younger woman named Nelly, played by Felicity Jones. Tom Burke, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Michelle Fairley co-star.
Lust for Love
February 7
Anton King writes and directs what seems to be a Whedonverse movie with Fran Kanz as the lead, who messes up his chance of happiness with his lifelong crush Mila, played by Beau Garrett. He enlists Cali, played by Dichen Lachman, to help him gain experience with women in order to woo her back. Caitlin Stasey, Enver Gjokaj, and Felica Day co-star.
La belle & la bête
February 12
Vincent Cassel and Léa Seydoux star in the French remake of Beauty and the Best that looks delightfully dark. The cinematography looks top notch, and the creatures are adorably sad.
What starts out as a typical male-oriented teen sexual journey when two high school friends make a pact to lose their virginity before they graduate, one drops a bombshell and comes out of the closet. Can their friendship last with this new information? Nicholas Braun, Hunter Cope, Dakota Johnson, Zach Cregger, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and Wendy McLendon-Covey star.
March 7
As a sequel to 300, Rise of an Empire will surely surpass its predecessor in terms of formidable enemies and roles for stronger women in Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) and Artemesia (Eva Green). Rodrigo Santora reprises his role as Xerxes and David Wenham reprises his role as orator Dilios.
March 7
Wes Anderson's newest effort takes place between World Wars I and II at a hotel where a concierge and a boy become best friends. Jude Law, Ralph Fiennes, Saoirse Ronan, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Ed Norton, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Adrian Brody, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum star. I will say that Anderson's movies need more females.
March 14
After a lengthy hiatus from being cancelled in 2004, Veronica Mars returns with a vengeance. A beautiful, beautiful vengeance. And the perfect place and time to do it? Her ten-year class reunion.
Divergent
March 21
Though I'm not a fan of the books, I think the premise will carry well to screen, as there isn't much internal monologues to create depth to the characters. Shailene Woodley sure is on fire with being the main character Tris in this series as well as being the lead in The Fault in Our Stars. Theo James plays Four, Kate Winslet plays Jeanine Mathews, Ashley Judd plays Natalie Prior, and so many more co-star.

Captain America returns and this time in present day! Sebastian Stan plays Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, and Scarlet Johansson reprises her role as Black Widow, upping her screen time. Also starring are Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13, Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.
April 25
Leslie Mann's character is the wife of a cheating husband, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. His two mistresses take to forming a club of sorts with his wife for wronging them. Mann and Waldau are two of my favorites, so I'm in!
Walk of Shame
April 25
Elizabeth Banks stars as a small-time reporter Meghan Miles whose dream is to be a news anchor. She gets that chance, but she has to make it to the audition. The problem is, though, that her car was towed after a one-night stand, and she's trying to make it in time in a rough neighborhood of LA. James Marsden, Gillian Jacobs, Kevin Nealon, Tig Notaro, Ethan Suplee, Sarah Wright, Oliver Hudson, and PJ Byrne co-star.

The lineup looks a bit crowded like X-Men 3: The Last Stand, but the premise seems to be more alluring, based off the classic arc from Chris Claremont. Let's hope Storm isn't awful.

A movie from the point of view of one of the best Disney villains? Yes, please! This is Angelina Jolie's first time acting since The Tourist, released in 2010, with her family health issues and cancer scare, depression, and directing.
The Fault in Our Stars

John Green's most recent book is the first of his to make it to the big screen. August 1
I always enjoy James Gunn's work, and combined with a fun Marvel comic, he's going to rock our worlds with a different take on superhero flicks. Hopefully it'll freshen up the genre to the point that it's not beating a dead horse. The Guardians are comprised of individuals who are the last of their races. Yes, one is a tree, and one is a raccoon.
Lucy
August 8 (trailer)
Luc Besson's next film revolves around a woman who had drugs smuggled inside her. The drugs are catalysts for using the remaining 90% of our brains, activating superhuman powers. While Lucy fights for her life, she is piecing together the universe in new ways, extending beyond human capacity. Scarlett Johansson stars as Lucy, and Morgan Freeman co-stars as a professor, studying the human brain and theorizing what we could accomplish if we used more of it.

It seems like this movie has been in the works for a long time, and it seems surreal that it's finally coming.
