Saul Zaentz Company Orders Extra Douche on Their Hobbit Deal

One of the production companies that bought the rights to Tolkien's franchise Saul Zaentz Company (SZC) have declared war on Earth.  As part of their contractual agreements, they own all property for goods and merchandise relating to The Hobbit.  Granted, New Line got anal about it with artists who weren't on commission by them when the first movie came out.  Dozens of artists, like Cincinnati-based Mike Makras (now retired), were sued or sent legal notices to cease and desist production art relating to Tolkien's world middle-earth.  Now, upon production of The Hobbit, the concern is again raised when SZC struck an all-time high of strict policies concerning their rights to The Hobbit materials.  Read on after the jump for more details and how small businesses are in danger from them.

Too Many Medical Dramas Drama

What's the deal with medical dramas? Essentially they're all the same. The same characters exists throughout each drama. This just in: Amy Smart will star in a CBS medical drama as a nurse who doesn't take shit from doctors (source from imdb). E.R. NEVER did this. Or Grey's Anatomy. Or Nurse Jackie, HawthoRNe, Trauma, Private Practice, House M.D., Three Rivers, Mercy, or the ten other medical dramas out there. I guess the public likes these or the networks wouldn't vomit them out. I don't find vomiting an excellent way to impress people, but that's my opinion. People, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Quit watching every single medical drama! There's better TV out there during that time slot. I guarantee it.

Don't get me started on crime dramas...what's with the CSI line?!

Bah Humbug

Disney's A Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carey, releases today in theaters. Anyone else think it's too soon? Last weekend the streets were filled with ghosts, hobos and the like and now we're being invaded by Father Christmas himself, a few days shy of three weeks before Thanksgiving.

I'm a holiday fan and no Scrooge, so don't get me wrong. It's actually because I love holidays so much that this upsets me. Granted there are few Thanksgiving movies, but really people? Poor Thanksgiving once again being overshadowed by Christmas. You couldn't release the movie that weekend? I'd even be okay with the Wednesday before Turkey Day, but the first weekend in November is too soon.

I plan to see this film as I adore the Christmas Carol story and any adaptation I can get my hands on, but I won't see it until the actual Christmas season begins (November 27). Who's with me, nerds?

Things That Annoy Me: Celebrity Gossip Shows

Celebrity gossip shows. Why do these exist? Access Hollywood, Extra, whatever else there is…I’m watching the news, don’t pay attention when commercials come on and all of the sudden obnoxious sounds are blaring into my ears, like a mix of howler monkeys, malfunctioning machines, pooping babies, and rocket ships, interchanging with strange voices that mock news anchors in a William Shatner voice. I cringe in utter annoyance and run to the TV to turn it off. Why do I care about celebrities’ personal lives unless I actually know them? I don’t care who’s married or who’s cheated on whom. I didn’t even know who these John and Kate people were until a few months ago when John was having an affair and it’s was all over the news (REALLY?! National News?!).
