Looking Forward in 2014: Films (Part 2)

The second post of Looking Foward in 2014 includes all movies that do not have set dates.  As they are set, I will move them to the other post.

Rose Byrne, Michael McKean, Joe Manganiello, Jason Sudeikis, Blythe Danner, and Beau Bridges star in this comedy that revolves around a widow who must confront the strange circumstances of her folk-singing husband's death.

The Last Time You Had Fun
As she copes with her failed marriage, Eliza Coupe stars as Ida, visiting her sister Alison, played by Mary Elizabeth Ellis.  Kyle Bornheimer and Jimmi Simpson (also of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame, like Ellis) also star.

Former assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is targeted by an old friend who has been hired to kill him.  Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Regan, Bridget Moynahan, Jason Isaacs, Dean Winters, and Willem Dafoe co-star.

Rudderless
William H. Macy directs this drama about a father who discovers a box of his recently-deceased son's demo tapes and lyrics.  He takes it upon himself to keep his son alive through starting a band and performing his music.  Macy, Billy Crudup, Selena Gomez, Jamie Chung, Anton Yelchin, Kate Micucci, Laurence Fishburne, and Felicity Huffman star.

Authors Anonymous
Six writers in a support group find that one of their own, a newbie, has had overnight success.  Kaley Cuoco, Tricia Helfer, Jonathan Banks, Jonathan Bennett, Chris Klein, and Dennis Farina star.

Barely Lethal
From the director of Fanboys, a 16-year-old former assassin Megan Walsh, played by Hailee Steinfeld, fakes her own death to become a normal teenager.  Her archnemesis and former handler Victoria, played by Jessica Alba, recruits Heather, played by Sophie Turner, to go undercover at Megan's high school to bring her back.  Samuel L. Jackson plays Megan's mentor, Hardman.  Rachael Harris, Dover Cameron, Steve-O, Dan Fogler, Rob Huebel, Jaime King, and Thomas Mann co-star.

Welcome to Me
Kristen Wiig continues to crank out movies.  In this one, Wiig stars as a woman with a borderline personality disorder who wins the lottery, stops taking her meds, and buys her own talk show that's all about her.  Linda Cardellini, Will Ferrell, James Marsden, Alan Tudyk, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Robbins, Wes Bentley, and Joan Cusack co-star.

The sequel to the famous movie will come out hopefully late this year or early next year.  It's always a pleasure to see Michelle Yeoh.

Ironclad: Battle for Blood
The sequel to the 2011 film Ironclad sees a survivor of the Siege of Rochester Castle now fending off Celtic invaders to save his fmaily.  Michelle Fairley stars!!!

The story, adapted from Margaret Atwood's novel, tells of the first woman convicted of murder in Canada.  Atwood gave life to the mystery and provided even more mystery but with satisfying depth to the psychology of Grace Marks.  Sarah Polley directs!

Lovesick
Kristen Johnston, Ashley Williams,Adam Rodriguez, Chevy Chase, Ali Larter, Matt LeBlanc, and Rachael Harris star in this movie about a woman who avoids relationships because she thinks she's cursed, but she wants one.  All her refrain leaves when someone comes back into life.
This is a collection of shorts written by Tim Winton, based off the short stories written by Tim Winton!  Rose Byrne, Hugo Weaving, Mirando Otto, and other Australian actors star.  Cate Blanchett makes her directorial debut with one of the shorts!  SWOON!  It's been in film fests, but it hasn't been released in theatres or DVD.

White Bird in a Blizzard
When her mother disappears, Kat's life unravels in a dangerous chaos.  Shailene Woodley stars as Kat.  Eva Green, Chistopher Meloni, Angela Bassett, Thomas Jane, and Gabourey Sidibe co-star.

Cate Blanchett and Mia Masikowska star as two women from different backgrounds who fall in love, based on the book The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith.  Phyllis Nagy adapted the screenplay and John Crowley directs.

Black and White
Mike Binder wrote and directed this New Orleans film about a windowed man who is attempting to gain custody of his granddaughter, whom he raised with his wife.  Kevin Costner, Gillian Jacobs, Jennifer Ehle, and Octavia Spencer star.

Based on Paul Billing's screenplay and adapted to the screen by Billings, The Poisoners is a dark comedy telling the story of a group of women in a farming community, left behind by the men during WWI.  It stars Anna Friel, Emily Watson, and Lena Headey.  John Amiel directs (The Tudors, The Borgias).  This smells like Oscar bait.

The Skeleton Twins
Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader star as estranged twins who a reunited after near-death experiences on the same day, hoping to repair their relationship.  Ty Burrell, Luke Wilson, and Kathleen Rose Perkins co-star.

Well, you can't possibly go wrong with Cate Blanchett (except for, you know, the most recent Indiana Jones), but Terrence Malick (Thin Red Line, Tree of Life) returns with a slew of wonderful actors in addition to Cate Blanchett.  This may not even be released this year, as Malick is working on another movie.

A woman, afraid to tie herself down to adulthood and marriage, begins to hang out with teenagers in an effort to keep her younger years close.  Keira Knightly, Chloe Moretz, Sam Rockwell, Gretchen Mol, and Ellie Kemper star.

I don't care for horror movies at all, but this movie seems to be a lot of family drama wrapped up in it.

The dramatic comedy centers around two best friends, played by Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson, who travel back to their hometown when one inherits his deceased father's money.  It seems his father was Amish, judging form filming rumors.  Amy Poehler, Melissa Rauch, and Laura Ramsey co-star.

A town comes together to save a woman's business from being overrun by a large corporation.  Amy Poehler (lead role), Paul Rudd, Cobie Smulders, Christopher Meloni, Michaela Watkins, Max Greenfield, Lynn Cohen, Ed Helms, and Michael Ian Black star.  David Wain wrote and directed.  Michael Showalter co-wrote it.

Though this is comprised primarily of fresh meat, Get a Job looks promising, as does anything with Anna Kendrick.  Am I right?  Directed by Dylan Kidd (Laura Linney's P.S.) and written by newbies Kyle Pennekamp and Scott Turpel, Get a Job revolves around a guy and his group of friends who've all just graduated and are trying to find jobs.  Anna Kendrick, Allison Brie, Ryan Cranston, Miles Teller, Jay Pharoah, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Greg Germann, Marcia Gay Harden, Jorge Garcia, Jeryl Prescott, and John C. McGinley star.

Via imdb, "A claim jumper and a pioneer woman team up to escort three insane women from Nebraska to Iowa."  It stars Tommy Lee Jones, who wrote and directed the film; Meryl Streep; Miranda Otto; Grace Gummer (Streep's daughter); Hillary Swank; John Lithgow; and James Spader.

Song One
Anne Hathaway comes home form an archeological dig to find her brother injured, so she takes it upon herself to care for him.   Soon enough she takes up with his favorite musician.  Ben Rosenfield, Johnny Flynn, and Mary Steenburgen co-star.  Kate Barker-Froyland writes and directs.

I, Origins
A molecular biologist and his assistant discover evidence of the human origins that would forever change society.  Michael Pitt and indie darling Brit Marling star.
