I came to the realization that shows that aren't good or I don't like are not worth my time. I've also come to the realization that I don't have the time to watch as much television now that I have to drive so far for my 9-hour-plus job. And I also don't get paid to write a blog...or to watch TV for that matter. So I'm separating the chaff from the wheat.
First on the chopping block: Supernatural. My GOD (pun intended) this show is boring. I found myself so uninterested that I skipped through the episode with Jewel Staite unless the scenes had her in them. I didn't even watch the last one. I'm just not into it anymore. The peen-fest that is Supernatural is way too macho-voice (yet emo) for me. The only women who were on it have been very...dead.
Second: Modern Family. I wanted to give this show another season after a strong premiere. but I find myself annoyed by Cam and Gloria and bored by the rest, save for Phil and Luke. Even Mani is now boring. What happened? I don't know, but apparently a lot of people are still into the show, so maybe my taste is changing (but I don't think so).
Gossip Girl...(shudder). This show went to utter crap quickly. I fell in love with it because of its witty dialogue. That's all it had going for it. I don't even find the wretched evil, vindictive characters interesting. I actually hate them. I'm just orgasm over the intelligent use of words and witty humor. Gossip Girl had that, until this season. Now it's left with the melodrama that so defines it. Even Gossip Girl herself has less of a presence, and we all know how much I love Kristen Bell (which is partly why I chose to start watching in January of last year starting with Season 1. Needless to say I'm highly disappointed.
Next: Terra Nova. I think I was highly delusional when I said I liked this enough to keep watching. It really is awful. A true piece of garbage with not-all-that-great special effects. We had to wait forever for...this. Lamesauce. All mysteries were solved at the very beginning. Where do they go from here? It's a very episodic, generic sci-fi show with stiff, wooden acting.
Lastly: 2 Broke Girls. I'm over this show with a passion. I loved it at first, but now it's turning into a true CBS show, complete with corniness and buddy-buddy light-heartedness. What once I considered dry-humor, sarcastic delivery is what I'm now taking as just plain bad delivery. I want to like it; I do. It's not bad, I suppose, but I can't afford to watch anymore shows. I have a nephew to play with!
And now I don't have to worry about watching The Playboy Club for Laura Benanti (because let's face it: she's uber-talented. Am I right, folks?) due to its canceled status.
Are there any shows you stopped watching recently? Are thinking about not watching any longer?
I gave up on The Office, Terra Nova (I made it partway through episode 1) and, apparently, The Playboy Club, since you say it's already been canceled. Holy shnikey's that was fast!
ReplyDeleteStill watching Supernatural, Modern Family, Gossip Girl and Two Broke Girls; although I agree with you where GG & TBG is concerned.
ReplyDeleteIt's not on right now (not its air time) but I recent stopped watching Royal Pains. It's one of those that I would never catch when it aired and I just got tired of playing catch up. Still a good show, but I wasn't missing it, so I gave it up.
I just started watching Modern Family season 3 (I finally got caught up, thanks to receiving season 2 as a birthday gift). It is not as good so far, so I can see why you got mad at it. Why the heck did Lily age so fast. She was a baby and could not speak at all, and all of a sudden she can speak in fairly complex sentences? What the what?
