Female Creators in Full Swing

A slew of television pilots ordered are from female creators, but a few really stand out for their content and creators.

Vandalia Films, Jennifer Garner and Juliana Janes' production company, will be hiring Easy A writer (!!!!!!) Bert Royal as the pilot script writer for a half-hour comedy series The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth, based on the popular non-fiction book.  Producers will be Donna Roth and Susan Arnold.  The show will follow the lives of the loner, the nerd, the popular bitch, the new girl, the gamer, the weird girl, and the band geek to highlight the qualities that set them apart as young adults that later in life will be what set them apart in the working world. Ellen DeGeneres will produce a comedy put pilot for NBC starring marriage partner Portia de Rossi.  The pilot will be written by Samantha Who creator and producer Don Todd.  It's about two sisters who are bitter rivals.  This is DeGeneres' A Very Good Production Company's first sale.  Congrats, Ellen!  Apparently the Big Four (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX) all were bidding for the show.  It must have been a big chunk of money.  Sitcoms are being highly sought after these days.  Look for even more next season.  (Deadline)

Nerdy Pop favorite Josh Schwartz (Chuck, Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, The O.C.) and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, The O.C., Hart of Dixie) have sold their production company's show My Best Friend is a Lesbo to NBC.  NBC sounds like it's about to get more comedy in its lineup, as they seem to be its moneymakers.  Lesbo is about two roomies, one gay and one straight, and their L.A. lives.  The show will be written and co-produced by Sascha Rothchild and Randi Barnes, whose lives the show off which the show is based.  Schwartz and Savage's Fake Empire is indeed becoming an empire. (Deadline)

Josh Schwartz is also working on deals with a crime drama, starring nerd-favorite Michelle Tractenberg.
